Add a Facebook button to your blog

It took me forever to figure this out, so I thought I'd write a post about it, in case anyone else needs some help. Yes, you can just do a screenshot of the Facebook logo and link it to your page, but this is the official way. Plus, it's the fancy "find us on Facebook" badge. My badge is at the top of the lefthand column.

Finding the badge
First of all, you need a Facebook (FB) page for your business. When you're logged into FB and on your business page, click on "Edit Page." It's located right below your profile pic, top of the left column. Then look for the Communication section, towards the bottom of the righthand column. Click on "Promotion Guidelines." This page gives you all the information about how your can reference FB and link to them. About halfway down is the actual badge, including a hi-res version. If you're posting it on your blog, you don't need the hi-res one... just right-click on the badge and save it somewhere on your computer.

Adding the badge to your blog
(For blogger) If you're looking at your actual blog and you're signed in, click "Customize" at the top. If you're on the Dashboard, click "Layout." Then click "Add a Gadget" and select "Picture." You can enter a title and/or caption, or just leave it blank (mine says "Become a fan on Facebook!"). Copy and paste the link to your FB business page into the "link" section. Upload the badge picture from wherever you saved it on your computer. Click "save" and rearrange the gadgets so the badge is where you want it in your layout.

Any questions?

Thank you this was way easier than trying to find how to do it on facebook. For something that is so widely used FB doesn't have the best user interface! Thanks for the help!

Hi there,

Just wondering whether I can do the same if I created a Group instead of a Business Page (or Fan Page) ? Can't seem to find out how to link the Group Page! Am totally lost. Hope you can help?

Thanks so much!

Kellybot said...

@Kimz: Yes! You can totally do that. In the instructions for adding the badge to your blog, just link to your group page instead of a business page. As for finding the button, you just need a low resolution version so google images for "facebook button" and you should find one. Or if you're creative, you can make your own.
Good luck!

Thanks so much for the info. Next step: Any suggestions on how to create a vivid link on the facebook page back to the blog?

Kellybot said...

@StorySaver: I use the "Write something about (page name)" link. It's not exactly that prominent, but at least it's a live link and it's permanently near the top of the right column. I've never tried putting any HTML in there - I wonder if you could have a linked photo.

Thanks! I'm just starting a blog, and I couldn't figure this out!
I "googled" "become a facebook fan button," and your blog was a couple links down, but it was the one that explained exactly what to do in an understandable way!

I agree with you but from my personal experience, it bought 4000 Facebook fans from www.socialkik.com and they added them to my page in a little over 1 month. All the fans appeared to be real and some of them turned out to be great customers.

You should use www.socialkik.com to buy Facebook fans... we purchased 10,000 Facebook fans and we're quite satisfied with the results. It's completely legal because the fans are real and they don't join your page until they check it and find it interestings. Socialkik.com keeps sending suggestions to become a fan until the order is fulfilled.

I am having troubles. It doesn't give me an option to edit page for the group I created and I don't know why. I created the group under the profile I created, but no where on that profile does it show that I created that group. But on the group page it acknowledges that I'm the administrator. I need help!

This post was very useful! Finding information on the simple facebook icon, so ubiquitous, was one of those strange google black holes.
Although the facebook profile interface has changed, and the instructions no longer work, they do get you close enough to fine the motherlode:

One can note from the actual usage guidelines that everyone is breaking the rules!

Thanks for this, however, when I went to my business page I couldn't find the 'edit page' under my profile pic. My fan page is only new, would this be the reason why I can't find it?
